The Quay

Looping Performance

12 May 2016 - Ghent
The Quay is a house with performance in each room. Do not fear unexpected encounters in the unique atmosphere of the spaces with their own improvised language. Feel free to observe from a distance or up close, to smell or to touch, to be fascinated or annoyed. Don't hesitate to trespass unknown areas where contradiction rules.

Artistic director: Sabine Martens
Concept: Jotka Bauwens and Lucia Sauro

Courtyard – terrace     SIMPLICITY

The keywords around which the complete performance is built are used as inspiration for a mirroring dialogue in 3 languages. Each word is contrasted with another in various combinations resulting in statements and questions that create a new dimension.

Performers: Nikola Bencova & Sabine Martens

Courtyard – fountain     FRAGILITY

Influenced by the words that surround her the performer forms an entity with the area and the complete house. Time and space become one in the transparence of the element water. Everything is captured in one living statue.

Performer: Chloé Geers

Performer: Cloë Geers

Kitchen – cooking area     INNOCENCE

The story of Clytaemnestra is the input for this piece which researches guilt versus innocence. Confession lies at the basis of offering insights into women’s radical behavior.

Performer: Helena Araújo

Kitchen – dining area     CLEANSING

As background to the performance in the cooking area of the same room, this piece depicts woman in the purest form. The performers create a contrast that gradually shifts from one to the other. Blame is taken and cleansed at the same time.

Performers: Judith Dhondt & Lucia Sauro

Pianoroom     SOLITUDE

98 cm x 150 cm x 240 cm

Here the search for a broader perspective from a confusing existence is depicted. The performer attempts to catch sound and light(ness).

Performer: Orin Driege

Living room     PAST

Memories of common youth and experiences can be shared but are never completely identical. This is because these are always a part of the person who has them and because they are experienced through one personality and looked at from the point of view of separate individuals. This is a piece about a shared past with a personal twist.

Performers: Eva Dermul & Laure-Anne Iserief

Hallway     LONGING

A dusty, lived-through hallway is the stage for an ode to love, longing, lust and everything you can imagine on this theme. Or is it rather a kind of gibberish? It drives man crazy. It drives the performer crazy and at the same time she is crazy about it. Love plays an act on all of us. Do you have any idea what she is doing to you?

Performer: Jotka Bauwens
